Quality over Quantity Equals Ice over Riders in 5-1 Match
December 14, 2013 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Indiana Ice News Release
The Indiana Ice banked on quality over quantity as they defeated the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders 5-1 from the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.
The highly-potent Indy offense came into the game ranked second in the USHL in shots per game (35.59), but managed to scope out five goals for their third consecutive win and their eighth in the past ten games.
Forwards Scott Conway (2G, A) and Dwyer Tschantz (G, 2A) badgered Cedar Rapids with three points each while Jason Pawloski bested the hosts on 25 of 26 shots on net for his sixth consecutive win. Aidan Muir and Jason Salvaggio also recorded goals in the contest.
Despite being outshot in both the first and second periods, Indy would light all the lamps they needed in the opening 40 minutes of the contest. Muir started the scoring after beating the defense on a blueline-to-blueline pass from Austin Kosack. The Edmonton-Oilers prospect deked RoughRiders netminder Chris Birdsall and lifted the puck off the backhand for his sixth goal of the season.
Conway and Tschantz masterminded the next two goals off the odd-angle posts to combine for the 3-1 advantage heading into the second intermission. Conway's shot across the crease deflected off Tschantz for the 2-0 lead to open the second period.
Indy was only two seconds away from clearing an Ice cross checking call when Cedar Rapids' Ivan Provorov gave the hosts their one and only tally in the contest. Not even 10 seconds passed before Conway worked his odd-angle magic again to silence the home crowd with his first of two goals of the night and his 12th of the season.
Salvaggio and Conway wrapped up the scoring bonanza in the third period to finalize the tilt at 5-1. The goal now puts Salvaggio on a three-game point streak with two goals in that stretch. Kosack's assist on the Muir goal gives him four in his past three games while Tyler Andrew extended his point streak to five games.
Indy takes a small holiday break before hitting the road on December 27 against the Youngstown Phantoms at 7:05 pm. Hockey returns to the Circle City for "Ring in the New Year" from Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Monday, December 30. The game is presented by Reis Nichols and one lucky fan will have the opportunity to win a free piece of jewelry, courtesy of Reis Nichols.
