Omaha Lancers News Release
LINCOLN, NE - In the final game before their lengthy Holiday break, the Omaha Lancers battled back from down 2-0, but ultimately fell in a five-round shootout to the Lincoln Stars at the Lincoln Icebox Arena on Saturday by a final score of 3-2. With the shootout loss, the Lancers fell to 20-4-3 overall this season and with 43 points, remain alone atop the Western Conference and overall USHL standings.
In a wild first period, the Stars stormed to a 2-0 lead on goals from Brandon Smith at 12:50 and John Simonson at 17:25, but the Lancers manufactured a response in the frame's final minute as Gage Hough tipped home a Tucker Poolman point shot at 19:10 with Jake Randolph collecting the secondary assist on the play, a score that drew Omaha within a goal at 2-1.
The second period proved to be as nerve-jangling as the first for both sides, but it was Omaha emerging with the frame's lone tally, a Luca Frigo power-play goal at 11:47, assisted by Ryan Tait, that lifted the Lancers into a 2-2 deadlock through 40 minutes of play.
After a scoreless third period and a similarly goalless overtime session, the Lancers and Stars pushed a shootout to five rounds before a David Parrotino score in the bottom of the fifth delivered the Stars a signature victory over their archrivals from Omaha.
After the holiday break, next up for the Lancers, it's a showdown with Omaha's Nebraska rivals, the Tri-City Storm on Friday, December 27th at 7:05 pm at Ralston Arena on "Motto McLean Appreciation Night", presented by Standard Heating & Air Conditioning. Full coverage of Friday's game begins with the "Valpak Pregame Show" at 6:50 pm on the Lancers' flagship station, "The Mighty" 1290 KOIL with Lancers broadcaster Tony Brown providing the play-by-play.
