Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Rancho Cucamonga won their ninth game in a row with a 4-2 victory over the Lancaster JetHawks on the Fourth of July at The Hangar. The Quakes' current winning streak is the team's longest in the Dodger era.

Lindsey Caughel (5-3, 3.41), the California League's reigning Pitcher of the Week, gave up just an unearned run in six innings of relief to earn his third straight win. In his first two innings of work, he struck out five JetHawks. Since coming off of the disabled list, Caughel has allowed just one earned run in 19 innings while striking out 19 and issuing just four walks.

Rancho Cucamonga (14-1, 46-39) played in front of a big crowd for the second straight night, but on Friday it was in Lancaster. The Quakes jumped out to an early lead against Lancaster's Mark Appel (1-4, 8.91). With two outs in the first inning, Corey Seager singled and Chris Jacobs followed with a long home run to right-center field to give the Quakes a 2-0 lead.

Rancho added an unearned run in the second inning on Brandon Dixon's sacrifice fly before Lancaster (5-10, 49-36) got on the board. Julio Urias struck out the side in the first, but the 17-year-old did not get out of the second. Danry Vasquez's sacrifice fly made it a 3-1 game. Urias gave up the one run on four hits in 1.2 innings before being taken out.

The Quakes scored their final run in the fourth inning. Jeremy Rathjen and Leo Rodriguez led off the frame with consecutive singles, and Rathjen scored on a fielder's choice to give Rancho a 4-1 lead.

Over the game's final five innings, Mark Appel and Brian Holmes combined to allow only one Quake to reach base. Corey Seager's seventh-inning single was Rancho's only hit after the fourth, but Caughel's fantastic relief effort was enough for Rancho to earn the win.

Overall, the Quakes have won 14 of their last 15 games. None of Rancho's nine wins in this streak have come by more than three runs. Friday's game was the first that did not require a save since Caughel earned the win in relief.

The Quakes go for their tenth win in a row on Saturday in the second of four games in Lancaster. Fabio Martinez (4-3, 4.68) gets the ball for Rancho against All-Star Kyle Westwood (5-5, 3.83). First pitch at The Hangar is at 6:00 pm and the game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports AM 1350 starting with the LoanMart Pregame Report at 5:45 pm.
