LANCASTER, Calif. - The JetHawks fell to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, 4-2, before a season-high 4th of July crowd of 6,181 on Friday night at The Hangar.

Lancaster (49-36) was in position to strike all night but struggled to hit with runners on base. The club tied a season-high with 14 runners left on base and finished 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.

The Quakes (46-39) jumped on Mark Appel (1-4) early with two runs in the first inning courtesy of firs baseman Chris Jacobs. Corey Seager singled with two outs and Jacobs blasted a home run to righ field, his 17th of the season, to put Lancaster in an early hole.

Rancho Cucamonga added an unearned run in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead. Chan Moon and Rio Ruiz began the inning by committing errors on ground balls and Adam Law followed with an infield single to load the bases. A Brandon Dixon fly ball drove in Leo Rodriguez for the third run.

Danry Vasquez hit a scoring fly ball in the bottom of the second to put the JetHawks on the board against starter Julio Urias. Jack Mayfield led off with a double and Austin Elkins singled him to third base before Vasquez came to the plate. Urias, who wasn't scheduled to pitch deep into the game, was removed with two outs in the second inning. Yasmanys Fernandez got the final out of the inning to strand two runners aboard.

Appel allowed another run in the fourth inning and finished his night with a 1-2-3 fourth inning. The right-hander allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits with one walk and three strikeouts.

Tandem starter Brian Holmes kept the JetHawks in the game with four scoreless innings. He retired 12 of 13 batters he faced with three strikeouts.

Lindsey Caughel (5-3) entered for the Quakes in the fourth inning and pitched the remainder of the game. He allowed an unearned run and struck out six over four innings.

The run came in the eighth inning. Teoscar Hernandez hit a two-out double, attempted to steal third and scored when catcher Kyle Farmer's throw sailed into left field.

The win was the ninth in a row for the Quakes. They are now 14-1 in the second half. The loss was Lancaster's 10th in their last 13 games.

The clubs continue the series on Saturday at The Hangar. Kyle Westwood will pitch against Fabio Martinez. First pitch is 6 p.m. There will be an encore July 4th fireworks show following the game.
