JetHawks Crack Quakes for 50th Win

LANCASTER, Calif. - The JetHawks edged the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, 6-5, to pick up their 50th win and end the Quakes' nine-game winning streak on Saturday night at The Hangar.

Lancaster (50-36) built a 5-1 lead but the Quakes (46-40) kept the pressure on made it a one-run game with a Steven Proscia two-run homer in the eighth inning. Lancaster put two on in the bottom of the eighth but stranded the runners.

Daniel Minor, who had retired the final batter in the eighth inning, took the mound looking to finish the game in the ninth. Leo Rodriguez started with a base hit and moved to second on a Brandon Dixon sacrifice bunt. Minor proceeded to strikeout both Corey Seager and Chris Jacobs to strand the potential tying run and notch his third save.

Lance McCullers started the game for the JetHawks and allowed a solo home run in the first inning to Dixon but struck out six in his two innings of work.

Kyle Westwood (6-5) entered in the third inning and allowed one run over four frames to pick up the victory.

The JetHawks took advantage of a wild Fabio Martinez (4-4) to score three runs in the first inning. Teoscar Hernandez was hit by a pitch, Rio Ruiz walked and Conrad Gregor singled to load the bases. A wild pitch scored Hernandez from third and a Dan Gulbransen single and Jack Mayfield scoring fly ball put Lancaster ahead 3-1.

Ruiz led off the third inning with a double and scored on a Gregor single.

Geoff Brown relieved Martinez in the fifth and walked Gulbransen before allowing an RBI-double to Mayfield.

Roberto Peña hit a solo home run, his sixth of the season, to give Lancaster an important insurance run in the eighth inning.

The clubs play the third game of the series on Sunday at The Hangar. Matt Heidenreich will start against Jharel Cotton. First pitch is 5 p.m. for Family in the Park Sunday. Fans are welcome on the field to play catch before the game and kids ages 12 and under can run the bases following the game.
