Quakes Roll Through Mavs 10-1

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- Both starting pitchers, Sean O'Sullivan for the Quakes and Alfredo Venegas of the Mavericks, got off to fast starts by not allowing any runs through the first three innings.

High Desert struck first in game two of the three game series in the top of the fourth inning as Joe Simokaitis hit a two-out solo home run to left field to grab a 1-0 lead.

Rancho would answer in the bottom of the inning by getting a lead off double by Ryan Mount and a two-run home run by Hank Conger to take a 2-1 edge.

The Quakes would come back with more offense in the 5th as they loaded the bases on singles by Alberto Rosario and Peter Bourjos and a walk to Ryan Mount to set the table for Conger with one out. On a 3-2 count, Conger blasted a ball over the left-center field wall for his second home run of the game and fifth in two days. The grand slam was the second on the season for Rancho and gave them a 6-1 lead.

Rancho added another run in the 6th as Alberto Rosario picked up an RBI ground out to score Larry Infante from third with less than two outs to give the Quakes a 7-1 lead.

Sean O'Sullivan was lights out for the Quakes as he went 7 solid innings, allowing just one run on four hits, while striking out four.

Rancho added three more runs in the bottom of the 8th inning on another RBI ground out by Rosario and a two-out, two-run home run by Peter Bourjos to take a 10-1 lead.

The Quakes have won three games in a row and will go for the series sweep against High Desert on Friday with Tommy Mendoza on the mound against left hander Jose Jimenez of the Mavericks. Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm.
