Quakes Hold Off JetHawks

August 17, 2006 - California League (CalL1)
Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA) –The JetHawks may have been stymied in their attempt for a series sweep, but the overall picture still shines bright for Lancaster baseball in the postseason.  The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes beat the JetHawks 8-2, but Lancaster still took two of three games in the road series.  In addition, second place Lake Elsinore lost, meaning the JetHawks remain alone on top of the division by a full game over the Storm.

The Quakes led from the first inning and never trailed.  Nate Sutton hit his first of two home runs as the Quakes scored two each in the first and second innings.  Sutton added a three-run homer in the fourth inning to blow the game open.

Lancaster scored just two runs on seven hits.  Brandon Burgess had an RBI single to get the JetHawks on the board in the third inning, while a Javier Brito triple and a Jereme Milons ground out scored their second run in the sixth inning.  Burgess was the only JetHawk with multiple hits in the game, finishing 3-4 with a double and a RBI.

The JetHawks open a seven-game homestand Friday night at Clear Channel Stadium against High Desert.  Matt Green(4-12) pitches for the JetHawks against Luis Cota (5-11) of the Mavericks.  The game begins at 7:00 PM.  The radio broadcast begins with the Burns Pharmacy JetHawks Pre-Game Show at 6:45 on Magic 1340 and online at jethawks.com.  Friday night is the JetHawks Third Annual Aerospace Appreciation Night.  The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive a free General Chuck Yeager Bobblehead Doll.  Two F-16 fighter jets will do a fly-over after the National Anthem, and a post-game Fireworks Spectacular cap off the night.

For tickets to remaining JetHawks home games, contact the JetHawks box office by phone at (661) 726-500, or by visiting the team’s official website www.jethawks.com.  If the JetHawks qualify for the 2006 California League playoffs, tickets will go on sale to the general public Tuesday, September 5 at 10 AM.
