August 17, 2006 - California League (CalL1)
Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA) -He might have been the third pitcher in line to get promoted to Lancaster, but Anthony Cupps is pitching like a Cal League all-star. Following up his six-inning shutout debut, Cupps pitched eight innings and allowed just one run as the JetHawks beat the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 9-1 Wednesday night at the Epicenter. The win keeps the JetHawks in first place, one game ahead of the Lake Elsinore Storm.
Cupps was sensational for his second straight game since joining the JetHawks. He allowed just the one run and only six hits in his eight innings of work. Cupps is now 2-0 with Lancaster while allowing just one run over 14 innings.
The JetHawks offense scored in six of their nine trips to the plate, taking the lead in the first inning and never trailing. They led 4-1 in the seventh inning, but scored four runs in that frame to pull away, with the big hit a two-run double by Cesar Nicolas.
Nicolas had three RBI for the JetHawks. Emilio Bonifacio went 3-4 with three runs scored while Josh Ford and Jon Zeringue each had two hits. One of Ford's hits was a home run to lead off the fourth inning.
The JetHawks complete a three-game series against Rancho Cucamonga Thursday night at the Epicenter. Cody Evans(2-2) pitches for the JetHawks against Francisco Rodriguez (4-11) of the Quakes. The game begins at 7:05 PM. The radio broadcast begins with the Burns Pharmacy JetHawks Pre-Game Show at 7:00 on Magic 1340 and online at jethawks.com.
