Quakes Fall to Storm 8-5

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- The Quakes fell behind early on Tuesday night as Lake Elsinore jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead on a Yefri Carvajal two-run home run in the second inning against starter Robert Fish.

The Storm came back with four more runs in the 3rd on five straight hits, highlighted by a Justin Baum two-run homer, and an RBI single by Angel Mercado to lead 6-0.

The Quakes answered in the bottom of the 3rd with four runs of their own against major league rehabber Cha Seung Baek. After Anthony Norman walked to lead off the inning, Andrew Romine hit an RBI double to plate the Quakes first run. Matt Sweeney then walked and Julio Perez followed with an RBI double to left-center to score another run and put runners on second and third. Efren Navarro then grounded out to produce a run and Jeremy Moore singled to center field to bring the fourth run of the inning in, and bring the Quakes within a 6-4 score.

It was a battle of bullpens from there as the Storm and Quakes were scoreless until the 8th inning. Mike Kenney threw 2.2 innings of one hit ball for Rancho before giving way to Nick Pugliese who allowed two runs in his two innings.

Lake Elsinore scored a run in the 8th on an RBI fielder's choice by Joey Railey and a run in the 9th on a solo home run by Logan Forsythe.

Rancho plated a run in the bottom of the 8th to cut the deficit to two runs on a sacrifice fly from Clay Fuller.

Rancho will host the Lake Elsinore Storm at the Epicenter Wednesday night for game two of the three game set. The Quakes will send right hander Esmerlin Jimenez to the mound against right hander Wynn Pelzer of the Storm. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
