Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- The Quakes fell behind early in the first of a four game series with High Desert as the Mavericks plated a run in the 2nd inning on an RBI single by Ian Bladergroen to lead 1-0.

Alexander Torres silenced the Mavericks' bats over the next four innings while striking out seven batters. He allowed a single with one out and an infield single with two outs before being lifted for Jordon Towns, who immediately allowed an RBI double to Bladergroen to give High Desert a 2-0 lead.

The Quakes answered in the bottom of the 6th as Rancho capitalized on two Mavericks' errors, and RBI singles by Matt Sweeney and Julio Perez to tie the game 2-2.

The top of the seventh was not friendly to the Quakes bullpen as a combination of Towns and Sammy Leon allowed four runs on just three hits, while walking four. Travis Scott homered to lead off the inning and after a Tyson Gillies triple and an Edilio Colina sacrifice fly, the Mavericks scored two runs on two bases loaded walks issued by Leon to grow the lead to 6-2.

The score would stay that way until the bottom of the 8th when Clay Fuller led off with a single and after a Matt Sweeney walk with one out, Julio Perez tripled into the right field alley to score two. Efren Navarro brought home Perez to bring the Quakes within a run at 6-5.

Steven Geltz, in his Quakes debut, was outstanding retiring all six batters he faced, four on strikeouts to keep Rancho within a run.

Phillippe Aumont came in to pitch the 9th for High Desert and retired the side in order to send the Quakes to their 4th straight loss.

Rancho will take on High Desert in game two of the four game series Saturday night. The Quakes will have right-hander Tim Kiely on the mound against left-hander Donnie Hume. Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm.

The Quakes are the California League Affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. For more information about purchasing tickets, please call the Quakes Ticket Office at (909) 481-5252 or order online at www.rcquakes.com.
