Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(VISALIA, CA) - Against the team with the best record in the league, minimizing mistakes is of upmost importance. Unfortunately, much of the damage against the JetHawks Saturday night in Visalia was self-inflicted. Lancaster fielders commited five errors and Lancster pitchers walked seven batters as the Rawhide defeated the JetHawks 13-2.
The JetHawks had a chance to set the tone early. With three consecutive two-out walks, they loaded the bases in the top of the first inning. However, Rawhide starter Wes Roemer got a ground out to escape the jam and did not allow a single hit to the JetHawks until the fourth inning.
By the time that first hit was recorded, the game was already out of hand. JetHawks starter Jose Duran struggled in each inning after the first. Two errors behind him helped to a five-run Rawhide explosion in the second inning. Visalia roughed up Duran for four more runs in the third, then two more errors helped the Rawhide to four runs in the fourth inning.
Fittingly, it was a Visalia error in the fourth inning that helped Lancaster get on the board. With two outs a David Flores fly ball was dropped. Craig Corrado singled Flores to third and Chris Jackson singled to bring home the first JetHawks run. Flores added his first home run of the year in the sixth inning for Lancaster's final tally.
J.B. Shuck was the only JetHawk with as many as two hits. He has now hit safely in a career-high and league-best 14 straight games. Reid Kelly pitched three and 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
The JetHawks and Rawhide will make up their rained out game from Friday with a double-header Sunday. Chris Hicks (3-1) and Philip Rummel (0-0) will be on the mound for Lancaster against Visalia's Christian Beltre (0-0) and Patrick McAnaney (3-0). The radio broadcast of the game on Magic 1340 and online at www.JetHawks.com begins with the Pre-Game Show at 12:45 PM with game one starting at 1 PM.
The JetHawks return home for a six-game homestand against the Inland Empire 66ers and the Lake Elsinore Storm starting Friday, May 8. Great ticket packages, including season tickets and flexible mini-plans, are on sale now for the 2009 season and may be ordered by calling (661) 726-5400.
