Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Bakersfield, CA - Leon Landry's two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning put the Quakes ahead to stay in a 7-5 win over the Bakersfield Blaze on Sunday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

Landry's sixth blast of the year came with the Quakes down 5-4, capping a three-run frame and helping Rancho snap a four-game skid, while bringing an end to Bakersfield's five-game winning streak.

With Rancho up 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Quakes' starter Garrett Gould surrendered his third solo homer of the game, as Juan Duran hit the first pitch of the inning over the left-field fence to even the game at 3-3. Two batters later, Danny Vicioso doubled and then later scored on a Niko Vasquez RBI single, giving the Blaze their first lead of the night at 4-3. Gould would be replaced by Scott McGough (3-5), who allowed an inherited runner to come in and score later in the frame, but would benefit from Rancho's three-run seventh to earn the win.

Trailing 5-3 in the seventh, the Quakes took advantage of a hit batter and a throwing error, pulling to within a run at 5-4. With two outs, Landry ripped the game-winner over the right-field fence against Bakersfield starter Daniel Renken (4-6), putting Rancho up 6-5.

The Quakes added a run in the ninth, as Blaze reliever Kyle McMyne walked the bases loaded and then hit Joc Pederson with a pitch, forcing in a run to make it 7-5.

After Eammon Portice kept the Blaze off the board over two scoreless frames, Eric Eadington picked up his 15th save of the year, working around a one-out single for a scoreless ninth.

Pedro Baez connected for his first home run in a Quakes' uniform, hammering a two-run shot to left in the first inning.

Rancho (10-14, 47-47) will look to make it two in a row and two of three over the Blaze in the series, sending Angel Sanchez (6-6) to the mound on Monday night in the rubber game of the three-game set. The Blaze will start Tim Crabbe, who will make his first appearance for Bakersfield this year. Game time on Monday is 7:45pm.

The Quakes will return to The Epicenter on Tuesday, July 17th, hosting Lake Elsinore and Lancaster as part of a six-game home stand. Tuesday is a Healthy RC Recycle Tuesday, as 10 CRV-eligible bottles and cans will get fans a free Club Seat Ticket to the game. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. Go Quakes!
