Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Former Quakes' pitcher Kyle Hurst combined with two relievers on a three-hit shutout, as Inland Empire snapped a four-game skid with a 2-0 win over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Saturday night at The Epicenter.

Hurst (3-1) scattered two hits over seven scoreless frames, in winning his third straight start.

The offense barely threatened, as no Quake reached third base on the night.

Andres Santiago was the tough-luck loser on Saturday, as he allowed just one run on three hits over five innings, in just his second start for the Quakes. Santiago (0-1) gave up a solo homer to Kole Calhoun leading off the second inning, his tenth of the year, putting Inland Empire up 1-0.

The only other run came off of Steve Smith in the eighth. Rian Kiniry led off the inning with a triple to right field, eventually scoring on a Matt Long sac fly, putting the 66ers up 2-0.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Quakes had their best chance to even the game. Nick Buss singled with two outs and Jake Lemmerman walked, bringing the go-ahead run to the plate. 66ers' closer David Carpenter fanned Angelo Songco though, ending the threat. Carpenter went on to work a 1-2-3 ninth, earning his fourth save of the year.

The Quakes (26-17) have now dropped back-to-back games for just the third time all year. Rancho, who has not yet dropped three straight this year, looks to keep that streak alive on Sunday afternoon, sending new righthander Arismendy Ozoria to the mound in his Quakes' debut. Inland Empire will counter with lefty Harold Williams (0-2), with game time scheduled for 2:05pm.

Kids are invited to attend Sunday's U.S. Bank Youth Baseball Little League Clinic on Sunday morning. With the purchase of a ticket to Sunday's game, kids can enjoy free baseball instruction from Quakes' players and coaches, as well as a special autograph session. Registration begins at 9am and the Clinic begins at 10am.

Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at The Epicenter...GO Quakes!
