Quakes Drop One in Extras on Sunday

?San Bernardino, CA-The Quakes lost a tough one on Sunday night at San Manuel Stadium, surrenderinga four-run lead and falling to Inland Empire in extras, 8-7.

The Quakes walked eight total batters after the fourthinning and began to see their advantage diminish when leading 6-2 in theeighth.

Ryan Moseley walked a pair in the eighth and the 66ers cutinto the deficit with a RBI-single from Connor Justus to make it 6-3.

In the bottom of the ninth, the 66ers loaded the basesagainst Moseley with a pair of hits and a walk. David McKinnon scored on a wild pitch and Inland Empire tied the game atsix with an RBI-groundout and a run-scoring double.

Omar Estevez began the tenth on second base and CristianSantana quickly gave Rancho the lead on a base hit to right field, 7-6.

After recording the final out of the ninth, Elio Serranoreturned to the mound looking for the win. Serrano struck out Justus, but then allowed a triple to Jordan Zimmermanthat tied the game. MacKinnon followedwith a single into center field, walking Inland Empire off at 8-7.

Serrano (0-1) was hit with the loss in his California Leaguedebut while Blake Smith (2-0), who allowed Rancho's run in the tenth, waspositioned for the win.

Rancho managed most of their scoring in the early to middleinnings. An RBI-triple from ZachMcKinstry and a sacrifice fly from Rylan Bannon gave the Quakes a 2-1 lead inthe third. Another pair of runs crossedin the fourth and Bannon smashed his 20th homer in the fifth to makeit 5-2.

Santana maximized the four-run lead with a run-scoringsingle in the seventh before the bullpen unraveled in the eighth.

With the defeat, the Quakes were handed their 40thloss of the season and are now 55-40 overall, 20-5 during the second half. The Quakes will search for a two-game splitof the series on Monday night with RHP Isaac Anderson (4-5, 3.66 ERA) scheduledto start on the mound. Anderson will beopposed by RHP Erik Manoah (2-7, 7.23 ERA) in theconclusion of the four-game set.

Rancho returns to LoanMart Field on Wednesday, July 18thto host the San Jose Giants in a three-game series and the opening of asix-game home stand.
