Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes flipped the tables on the Lake Elsinore Storm on Saturday night at The Epicenter, as one night after enduring a 12-run loss, the Quakes walloped the Storm by 12, winning 14-2 to end a three-game losing streak.
A crowd of 4,047 saw the Quakes club a season-high five homers, with Bobby Coyle's grand slam and six RBIs leading the way.
Quakes' starter Ryan Acosta earned his first win since moving into the rotation, as he allowed just two unearned runs over a season-best five innings of work.
The Quakes grabbed the early lead, as Gabe Suarez doubled to open the game, then later scored on a Coyle RBI groundout.
The game remained 1-0 until the fourth, when Angelo Songco singled, then rode home on Jonathan Garcia's ninth homer of the year, making it 3-0.
The Storm pulled to within a run in the top of the fifth, as two Rancho errors helped make it a 3-2 game against Acosta (2-1).
Rancho got going again with two outs in the fifth and put the game away, as Joc Pederson and Coyle hit back-to-back singles, before Austin Gallagher brought them home with a three-run blast to right-center, his 13th of the year to make it 6-2. Chris O'Brien followed with a solo shot, his fifth to make it 7-2 against Storm starter Mark Pope (7-8).
Coyle cracked a two-out grand slam in the sixth, his eighth homer of the year off of Storm reliever Ryan Quigley, making it 11-2.
Angelo Songco became the fifth Quake to go deep in the seventh, as he opened the inning with a solo-shot to right, his third hit of the game and fifth homer of the year, putting the Quakes up by double-digits at 12-2.
Coyle drove in his final run of the night in the eighth, as his sac fly plated Suarez to make it 13-2. Gallagher capped the scoring with an RBI double, finishing out the scoring at 14-2 against Storm reliever Chris Haney.
The Quakes (20-28, 57-61) are now three games out of a playoff spot with 22 to play, thanks to Lancaster's loss in San Jose on Saturday night. Rancho will send Garrett Gould (4-7) to the mound in Sunday's series-finale, as he takes on Storm righthander Matt Lollis (0-3).
Sunday is Best Buy Team Photo Giveaway Day, as 1,500 fans in attendance will take home a free 2012 Team Photo, thanks to Best Buy. Gates open at 4:05pm and game time is 5:05pm. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. Go Quakes!
