Lancaster JetHawks News Release
SAN JOSE, CA - The JetHawks got off to a good start with two early runs but couldn't muster anymore as they went on to fall to the San Jose Giants on Saturday night, 3-2, at Municipal Stadium.
Delino DeShields Jr. led off the game with a single against starter Kelvin Marte (1-0). The second baseman promptly stole second base, his first stolen base in the Cal League, and moved to third when catcher Andrew Susac's throw went into centerfield. Andrew Aplin followed with a triple to score DeShields and later came home on an Erik Castro groundout.
Lancaster would manage just three hits the rest of the way. By the second inning, the team's lead was gone.
The Giants loaded the bases in the bottom of the first against starter Colton Cain (0-1). Joe Panik scored on a Ricky Oropesa fielder's choice ground out.
In the bottom of the second, Jarrett Parker led off with a walk, stole second base and scored on a Carter Jurica hit to tie the game, 2-2.
Cain put himself in a jam in the fifth inning. Adam Duvall and Oropesa singled with one out and Susac walked to load the bases. Cain struck out left-handed hitter Jarrett Parker for the inning's second out but manager Rodney Linares summoned Chia-Jen Lo from the bullpen to face Jarrad Page.
Page singled to right field to score Duvall from third to put the Giants up by a run. The JetHawks did not manage a hit for the remainder of the game.
Cain went 4 2/3 innings allowing three runs on six hits with three strikeouts and five walks. Lo threw 2 1/3 shutout innings with four strikeouts while allowing only two hits.
Four Giants relievers combined to throw four no-hit innings to end the game. Cody Hall pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up the save.
The JetHawks (60-58, 23-25) will take on the Giants (62-56, 24-24) in the rubber game of the three game series on Sunday evening at 6:00 pm in San Jose. David Martinez will start against Ryan Bradley.
