
Quakes Beat Mavericks 7-3

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- In the first home game of the second half, the Quakes sent left hander Jayson Miller to the mound. After he struck out the first batter of the game, Edilio Colina laced a double down the left field line to give the Mavericks their first base runner. After a walk and a strike out, Alex Liddi was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Jamie McOwen followed with a three run double to give the Mavs a 3-0 lead. With the hit, McOwen extended his Cal League record hitting streak to 38 games.
Steven Hensley started off well for the Mavs on the mound, but the Quakes got to him in the 3rd as Clay Fuller reached on a fielder's choice and stole second. With two outs, Jeremy Moore blasted a two run home run to bring the Quakes within a run at 3-2.
Jayson Miller cruised after the first inning by allowing just four hits and striking out three batters and retired the last seven batters he faced.
The Quakes offense came alive in the 7th after Hensley left the game. Efren Navarro led off with a single and Andrew Romine entered as a pinch runner. Jay Brossman then laced a single up the middle and Romine went from first to third. Brossman got caught in a run down between first and second long enough to allow Romine to score to tie the game 3-3. With nobody on and one out, Carlos Colmenares walked and on a hit and run by Alberto Rosario, with two outs, Colmenares was able to score from first base to take a 4-3 lead. Rosario moved to second on a poor throw to the plate. With two strikes, Clay Fuller singled to left to score Rosario to give the Quakes a 5-3 lead.
Rancho added two more runs in the 8th on three straight hits including singles from Jay Brossman and Carlos Colmenares; and a two-run double by PJ Phillips to grab a 7-3 advantage.
Michael Anton entered for the Quakes out of the pen in the 8th and retired all 6 batters he faced including striking out the side in the 9th to end the game.
The Quakes will continue their series with the Mavs on Thursday. Slated to start game 2 of the 3 game set is right hander Jeremy Thorne for the Quakes against left hander Donnie Hume. Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm.
