Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - The Lake Elsinore Storm jumped on JetHawks' spot starter Philip Rummel for two runs in the first inning and never looked back in a routine 8-3 win in the opening game of a three-game series between the two clubs. The JetHawks have now lost four in a row after being swept in Stockton to begin the week.
After Lancaster won the opening series of the second half over Rancho Cucamonga, the JetHawks have hit a bit of a rough patch. They were held to just four hits on Wednesday night, and only had six base runners.
Storm starter Jeremy Hefner, who had won his previous three starts coming into the ballgame (all against Inland Empire), was brilliant again on Wednesday. He went seven innings, allowed no earned runs and just the four hits. He struck out three and moved his record to 8-6.
The fans at the Hangar got to see the newest JetHawk Chris Salamida - and he impressed. Salamida came in with two on in the eighth inning and struck out Danny Payne to end the frame, then got all three outs in the ninth to keep any hope alive.
The JetHawks, as they have so often done this season, did rally in the ninth inning - this time against All Star closer Bryan Oland. Jon Gaston led off the inning with a walk; after T.J. Steele struck out, Koby Clemens singled to left field. Matt Weston then doubled in Gaston for the JetHawks' first run of the game. Marcos Cabral then singled Clemens in, and David Flores brought Weston in with a single to right. But that would be the last blood drawn by the JetHawks, and the Storm locked up the first game of this three-game set.
Sawyer Carroll knocked in a pair of runs for the Storm, on RBI doubles in the first and sixth innings. Brad Chalk, Beamer Weems, James Darnell and Danny Payne also drove runs in for Lake Elsinore.
The series continues tomorrow night at 7:00 PM the Hangar. It will be a Cheers Buck Beers Thursday and a $1,000 Dollar Giveaway. It will also be Red White and Blues Night at the Hangar. Friday night will be the Independence Day Extravaganza. There are fewer than three hundred general admission tickets remaining to a ballgame that will feature a pre-game concert from Riff Raff and American Idol finalist Mishavonna Henson, and a fireworks display at the end of the game.
Great ticket packages, including season tickets and flexible mini-plans, are on sale now for the 2009 season and may be ordered by calling (661) 726-5400. For more information, please visit the JetHawks official website at www.JetHawks.com.
