
Quad City Steamwheelers Roll Over the Cincinnati Jungle Kats 81-21 in Season Opener

(Cincinnati, Ohio) - Quad City Steamwheelers quarterback J.J. Raterink rolled up 246 yards and five touchdowns leading the Steamwheelers to a 81-21 season opening win over the Cincinnati Jungle Kats in front of 4,853 fans at U.S. Bank Arena.
The âWheelers offense scored a touchdown on all seven of its drives in the opening half and went on to score a touchdown on 12 of their 14 possession in the game.
After trading touchdowns to open the game the Steamwheelers would score nine of the next 10 touchdowns. Wide receiver Kris Peters led the receiving corps with 155 yards and four touchdowns on 10 receptions, while FB/LB Jermaine Petty tallied two touchdowns on four rushes. Petty's presence was also felt on the defensive side of the ball as he tallied 1.5 tackles for a loss and a fumble recovery.
Quarterbacks Raterink and Pike teamed up for 320 total passing yards and eight touchdown passes. Between the two they only threw six incompletion passes on the night with Raterink going 19 for 24 and Pike five for six.
After allowing the Jungle Kats to score on two of their first three possessions the Steamwheelers defense dug in and held the Kats to just one touchdown on their next 12 attempts. The Steamwheelers defensive also forced five total turnovers (three fumbles and two interceptions).
Rookie defensive back Kevin Adams anchored the âWheelers defense recording 12 solo tackles, one forced fumble, two pass breakups and an interception. Fellow rookie defensive back, Antwan Allen, also was credited with seven solo tackles and one forced fumble.
The Jungle Kats quarterback, Eddie Eviston tallied 274 yards and two touchdown passes on 26 completions. Deontrae Johnson led the wide receivers with 116 yards and two touchdowns on seven receptions. On defense Desmond Washington led the way with 10 total tackles (nine solo, two assisted).
Quad City Steamwheeler Shonn Bell was named the Olympic Steel Man of the Game for his performance. Bell caught a touchdown pass to end the first half, giving the âWheelers a 47-13 lead. He also tallied four total tackles, a fumble recovery and an assist on a sack. Peters took home the Offensive Player of the Game honors, while Raterink was named the Ironman of the Game. Cincinnati's Luke Scarborough was named the Defensive Player of the Game.
