Central Valley Coyotes News Release
(Lemoore, Calif.) - After two weeks of training camp the Central Valley Coyotes have narrowed their roster down to 24 players and must be at a league required 22 man roster by Monday, April 2, 2007. Of the 35 contracts originally offered this year, OL Jeremy Dominguez (6'5 340, San Jose State University) and DL Tyreve Smith (6'4 295, Bowie State University) were placed on the Refuse to Report list and standout WR Geoff McArthur (6'1 200, CAL) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Smith will join the team after the completion of his bachelor's degree from Bowie State University later this spring.
During training camp eight other players were either cut from the team or left camp on their own. "I really think a few players showed up to camp thinking we were going to pick teams and run around pulling flags," stated Head Coach Fred Biletnikoff Jr. "A few of them realized that this wasn't for them and they simply "tapped out" but, releasing a few of the players was a difficult decision for our coaching staff."
At the QB position Clay Groefsema and Brian Luke have both showed promise during camp and Coach Biletnikoff says the decision will be difficult to see who will follow the path carved by quarterbacks Juston Wood (Philadelphia Soul, AFL) and Scott Rislov (San Jose Sabercats, AFL). The Fresno State University football program has been well represented during camp this year as Tierre Sams and Jesse Smith both have blossomed in the secondary and by Dartangon Shack (6'1 285) and recently added Sean Finnerty (6'4 315) on the offensive line.
There are 15 rookies left on this year's roster and 5 returnees from last year's team. The Coyotes final 22 man roster will be released Monday and again, tough decisions will be made by the coaching staff prior to next week.
2007 will be the Coyotes fourth season at Selland Arena and they will play their first of eight home games on April 7 against the Everett Hawks.
