Quad City Steamwheelers News Release

Walker Set New Steamwheelers Record: With his 16 receptions on Saturday night Jack Walker Jr., broke the previous Steamwheelers single-game reception record of 15 that was previously held by Craig Cole. Cole had 15 receptions on 3-29-2001 vs. Peoria.

Quad City Streaks: Kris Peters has caught at least one touchdown catch in his last five games and has over 100 receiving yards in his past four games ... Tim Dodge has caught at least one receiving touchdown in the past three games.

Back on Track: Kimo Naehu has continued to show that he is getting back on track. Naehu tied a team record for most field goals in a game when he went 2-2 against Spokane. His two field goals mark the 12th time a Steamwheeler has hit two in a game. No Steamwheeler has made three in a game before. Also, for the second straight week Kimo went 5-5 in PAT attempts. In the past three games the Waipahu, Hawaii native is 3-5 in field goals and 15-17 in PAT's. Before the game versus Louisville the Steamwheelers were 21st in PAT kicking (.613) and have since moved to 16th in the league (.708).

Midterms: At the midway point of the season the Quad City Steamwheelers are one game behind where they were last year, however, they are ahead of last years team in several categories. In points scored Quad City only had 418 midway through last season, while this year's team has 425. Quarterback Tim Hicks is already in the top three in several Steamwheeler passing categories and is currently on pace to shatter not only the Steamwheelers yards passing record, but the af2's as well. Through eight games, Hicks has 2,434 yards passing a game and is currently on pace to throw for 4,868 yards this season. That would shatter former Steamwheeler Tony Zimmerman's record of 4,331 and eclipse the af2 record of 4,489.

Last season only one player had over 600 yards in receiving through eight games (Tim Dodge, 645). This year Jack Walker Jr (810), Kris Peters (700) and Tim Dodge (605) are above that mark. The receiving corps only had 42 touchdowns last season, compared to 46 this year.

In terms of rushing last year's edition of the Steamwheelers had notched seven rushing touchdowns at the midpoint of last season, led by quarterback Sam Clemon's four. This season, the team has registered 16 rushing touchdowns. Jeff Macrea already has tallied more than last years entire team by the midpoint with eight and Tim Dodge, who did not tally a rushing touchdown last season has four to his name in 2006.

In the kicking game Naehu is a little behind last years pace notching 34 PAT's on 48 attempts, while making three of nine field goals. Last season Gatto was 43-49 on PAT's and 4-16 on field goals at the midway point.

Defensively is where this year's team has struggled. They have not forced as many turnovers or sacks and have given up more points 490 compared to 452 a year ago, but in terms of tackles this year's squad has tallied 216, while the 2005 Steamwheelers had 206.5 after eight games.

Upcoming Promotions: On June 3rd when the Steamwheelers host the Albany Conquest they will be hosting Scout Night. Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts can receive specially priced tickets to the game. Also the first 2,000 fans entering the field for autographs after the game will receive the 2006 Deck Mate Swimsuit Calendar. Fans who are holding tickets to any 2006 Steamwheelers home game can use their Steamwheelers ticket to get into the Greek Cultural Festival, hosted at the John Deere Commons and River Drive in front of The MARK, for free. The festival is a celebration of Greek arts, culture, traditional dancing, wine tasting, delicious food and is great entertainment for the entire family.
