Bakersfield Blitz News Release

Bakersfield - The battle was a loss for the Bakersfield Blitz as they fought for round two in the Battle of Highway 99 against the Central Valley Coyotes on Saturday, May 27 at Selland Arena in Fresno. The Blitz went home disappointed with a 46-56 defeat, in favor of the Coyotes.

1st Quarter

The game started off with a disappointment when Coyote's WR/DB, Lamonte Jones, had a 50 yard kickoff return touchdown within the first minute of the game. The first touchdown didn't seat well for Blitz defensive star, Jerry Turner. Turner's sack of the game followed shortly after. First quarter ended with a score of Blitz 0, Coyotes 16.

2nd Quarter

The second quarter looked more promising for the Blitz. Blitz WR/LB, Eric Mahanke, had two touchdowns, one being a 35 yard pass from quarterback, Mike Wall. Blitz OL/DL, Asora Tuianna, had a safety touchdown. Blitz WR/DB, Nathan Munson, and OS, Rennard Reynolds, also had touchdowns. However, the Coyotes fought harder and scored more as the first half ended at Blitz 29, Coyotes 33.

3rd Quarter

In the third quarter, Blitz WR/DB, DeRonn Finley, scored with a 28 yard touchdown pass from Wall. New kicker, Jaret Johnson, also scored with a 28 yard field goal. Unable to get ahead, the Blitz ended the third quarter at Blitz 39, Coyotes 49.

4th Quarter

In their last chance to out score the Coyotes, the only Blitz player able to get in the end zone was OS, Rennard Reynolds. For his second touchdown of the game, Reynolds caught a 24 yard touchdown pass from Wall and made his way in the end zone. The Battle of Highway 99 Part II ended at Blitz 46, Coyotes 56.

The Blitz are playing at home on Saturday, June 3 when they face the Amarillo Dusters of af2's National Midwest Division. Kick off is set for 7:00 p.m. at Rabobank Arena.
