Quad City Steamwheelers News Release

Looking to Rebound: The team is looking to rebound from the worst start in franchise history this weekend when the Quad City Steamwheelers face the Albany Conquest in Albany, N.Y. The Steamwheelers are certainly not happy with the slow start, but if any coach is up to the challenge it is headman Rick Frazier. Frazier became the first coach in AFL history to ever take a team to the playoffs after losing five straight games to open the season. In 1998, he took the Milwaukee Mustangs to the AFL playoffs in his first year as the head coach.

By Bus, Plane or Train: The Quad City Steamwheelers will be taking a page out of the past this week when they travel to their game against the Albany Conquest by train. In a day and age when most teams travel by plane or bus, this will be a new experience for most of the players on the team.

The Conquest: The Steamwheelers are 1-0 all-time over the Albany Conquest, who sit tied for third with the Green Bay Blizzard in the American East division at 2-2. The Conquest started the season 2-0, but are currently on a two-game slide. Albany is first in arenafootball2 in total offense yards with 1,221 through four games and second in the af2 in total offense averaging 305.2 yards per game. Quarterback, Ryan Vena leads the league in total offense averaging 301.5 yards a game. He also leads the af2 in total offensive yards and passing yards. However, Vena also leads the league in interceptions thrown with nine, on the young season.
