Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release


Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - The Lewiston MAINEiacs split a pair of games with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan this past weekend at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee. On Friday night, Acadie-Bathurst opened the weekend with a 3-1 win, thanks to a pair of goals by former MAINEiac Sebastien Trudeau, as well as 31 saves by Robert Steeves. Samuel Carrier's power play goal was the lone marker for the home team. On Saturday night, Lewiston got revenge, picking up a 2-1 win with two goals in the third period. Both tallies came off of the stick of former Titan forward Jess Tanguy, helping goaltender Nicholas Champion defeat his former club with 21 saves. With the weekend split, the MAINEiacs are now 2-3-0-1 (5 pts) on the season, and 2-2-0-0 on home ice.

Last Week in the Telus East Division

The Quebec Remparts (5-0-0-1, 11 pts) continue to be the early class of the Telus East Division, picking up a pair of victories on home ice, while extending their winning streak to four games. Quebec started the weekend by dismantling Rouyn-Noranda 12-2 on Friday, before a 4-1 victory over Halifax on Saturday.

The Chicoutimi Sagueneens (4-1-0-1, 9 pts) picked up three points last week, taking over sole possession of second place. Chicoutimi picked up a 3-1 win over Halifax on Friday, before falling 5-4 in a shootout against Moncton on Saturday.

The Rimouski Oceanic (4-3-0-0, 8 pts) got progressively better as the week went along, ultimately jumping into third place in the division. The week started slow for Rimouski, as they dropped a 5-3 decision to Moncton on Wednesday. However, the weekend belonged to the Oceanic, who edged Shawinigan 5-4 on Friday, before a 9-2 blowout win over Halifax on Sunday.

The Victoriaville Tigres (3-2-0-1, 7 pts) suffered a pair of losses last week, but did acquire one point in the standings. That point came on Friday night, when the Tigres fell 6-5 in a shootout against Val-d'Or. On Saturday, Victoriaville lost to Rouyn-Noranda 3-1.

The Baie-Comeau Drakkar (1-5-0-0, 2 pts) continue to struggle, and have now lost four straight games. Offense was the name of the game for Baie-Comeau's opponents last week, as the Drakkar surrendered 13 goals in two games - a 6-4 loss to Halifax on Wednesday, and a 7-5 loss to Moncton on Friday.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL

The Drummondville Voltigeurs are now the only undefeated team in the league, improving to 6-0 with wins over Gatineau (8-3) and Saint John (7-6 in a shootout).

The Montreal Junior moved up to second place in the Telus West Division with a pair of wins over Saint John (4-1) and Val-d'Or (6-2).

After falling 2-1 at home to Acadie-Bathurst on Wednesday, the PEI Rocket went on the road to Cape Breton, and came away with two well-defended victories (2-1 & 3-1).

Finally, the Gatineau Olympiques outshot the Shawinigan Cataractes 41-16 on Sunday, but lost 6-4.
