QMJHL shows a healthy rise in attendance figures
December 6, 2005 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) News Release
BOUCHERVILLE, Tuesday, December 6, 2005 (QMJHL) - The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League has recorded a 25.4% rise in attendance compared to the same period last year.
Several factors can explain this sudden rise, notably the arrival of two new franchises: the Saint John Sea Dogs (NB) and the St. John's Fog Devils (NL), who average 4,397 and 4,074 fans respectively.
At the top of the rankings are the Mooseheads who draw 7,246 followers per game just a pinch more than do the Quebec Remparts who sit second. Moreover, Halifax boast the best single game attendance figure this season as 8,334 fans flocked the Metro Center last November 11th.
Chicoutimi and Moncton are the two markets where the biggest hikes have been recorded: 39.1% and 37.2% respectively.
Conversely, some fans are still hesitant to come back in some markets such as Rimouski (-11.3%), PEI (-11.2%), Lewiston (-8.2%), Shawinigan (-5.0%) and Val-d'Or (-5.0%).
At this rate, the QMJHL will attract its millionth spectator around December 9th.
