QMJHL launches its new History & Records section
Published on March 2, 2009 under Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) News Release
BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, March 2, 2009 - The Commissioner of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Gilles Courteau, today officially launched the new "History & Records" section which is now available on the League's website at www.lhjmq.qc.ca.
"Hockey fans will now have the opportunity to consult forty years worth of statistics and records going all the way back to the League's birth in 1969," said the Commissioner. "This extraordinary undertaking was made possible by the relentless efforts of a group of more than twenty individuals led by our Chief Statistician, Denis Demers. The result is truly remarkable. I would like to congratulate and thank Denis Demers and his staff for a job extremely well done."
Here are a few of the project's highlights:
- The "History & Records" section started being built in the fall of 2005. - A team of twenty-four impassioned individuals took part in the project. - More than 12,000 hours were necessary to complete it. - Approximately 10,000 score sheets were manipulated and photographed to enable the web scorers to enter the data.
"I am very proud of the end result," commented the architect of the project, Denis Demers. "Every single piece of data since 1969 has been itemized. It is a great tool for passionate hockey fans and for the media who cover the League. Several tens of thousands of records and player pages, which include career statistical breakdowns, are just a click away. Fans can even consult game-by-game statistics of QMJHL greats such as Guy Lafleur, Raymond Bourque, Mario Lemieux, Mike Bossy, Roberto Luongo and Sidney Corsby to name just a few. I do not know of any other sports website that has as much available data for its fans to enjoy."
"Finally, I would like to thank Annie Lachapelle and Stéphane Lajeunesse, my two extraordinary assistants, for their colossal help. I would also like to thank the company Tonik Groupimage for their valuable support in making this project possible."
