PVF Championship Semifinal Preview: San Diego Mojo vs. Omaha Supernovas: May 15, 2024

The PVF Championship semifinal matchup between the San Diego Mojo and Omaha Supernovas will be the fifth contest between the teams with the series tied, 2-2. Omaha swept the first match in Nebraska on Feb. 7 before San Diego picked up a 3-1 win at home on April 2. The sides then split a pair of back-to-back five set thrillers with the Novas winning at home on April 20, then the Mojo winning three days later in San Diego. First serve inside the CHI Health Center in Omaha is set for 6:30 p.m. PT.

San Diego Mojo Outlook
San Diego have won a franchise-best three consecutive matches and enter postseason play as the third seed in the PVF Championship. San Diego started the season 1-5 and have won 12 of their last 18 matches. Lindsey Vander Weide dominated for the Mojo last week, setting PVF records at Orlando with 30 kill and 32 points, scoring on 30 of 58 swings (.517) while also adding 14 digs, two assists, one block and one service ace, to help earn Player of the Week honors.
As a team, the Mojo topped the league with 269 total blocks, averaging 2.74 per set, ranked second in total assists with 1,218 and third in total points (1,632) and total digs (1,643).
Thomas-Ailara averaged 3.67 kills per set, the sixth-best mark in the league, while Ronika Stone topped the league with a .336 hitting percentage and leads the Mojo with 13 service aces. Ali Bastianelli finished fourth in the PVF with 62 blocks and led the league averaging 1.07 blocks per set. Nootsara Tomkom ranked third in the league in assists per set (10.59) and total assists (932) and Shara Venegas was fourth in the league in digs per set at 3.63 and is third in total digs with 345.
Omaha Supernovas Outlook
Led by interim head coach Laura "Bird" Kuhn, Omaha heads into the PVC Championship as the second seed with a record of 16-8. Omaha dropped a five-set decision at Grand Rapids in the regular-season finale, but prior to that the Novas had reeled off four-straight wins, including back-to-back sweeps. Bethania de la Cruz, the Pro Volleyball Federation Server of the Year after topping the league with 32 service aces, leads Omaha in scoring at 13.13 points per match, while Brooke Nuneviller, a first-team All-League selection, tops the team with 280 kills and is second in scoring with an average of 12.79 points per outing. Sydney Hilley (592 assists) and Natalia Valentin-Anderson (473 assists) are the primary setters for the Supernovas and ranked seventh and ninth in the league, respectively.
