East Texas PumpJacks News Release
Mark Mathias picked up his second home run of the year, but the Pump Jacks were unable to hold off the Stykers offense, resulting in a 10-7 loss Friday night.ÃâÃÂ
The East Texas Pump Jacks battled to their last out, but it wasn't enough as they fell for the second night in a row to the Woodlands Strykers, 10-7.
The Pump Jacks got on the board first in the opening inning. Joey Armstrong grounded into a fielder's choice, erasing Connor Huesers at second. Mitch Meyer continued his hot hitting, ripping a single into left to put runners on the corners. The with Garrett McMullen, at the plate Meyer took second and on the throw Armstrong stole home, for the double steal to put the Jacks ahead 1-0.
The Stykers tallied a run of their own in second on a single by Connor Kalisky tying the game at one all. ÃâÃÂ
The Pump Jacks broke the stalemate in the fifth. With two outs, Wes Edrington kept the Jacks alive working a walk and then swiping second. Huesers followed with a single and stole second to put two runners in scoring position. Nate Esposito picked up the RBI with a single right center to plate Edrington.ÃâÃÂ
East Texas extended their lead in the top of the sixth thanks to a two-run blast from Mark Mathias. Meyer opened the frame with a walk to put him on base for Mathias. Mathias got ahold of a 1-0 fastball and drove it over the wall in right to give the Jacks a 4-1 advantage.ÃâÃÂ
However, the Stykers responded in the next frame to regain the lead behind the bat of Dalton Perry. The inning opened with a bunt single, and a single over the diving Edrington at short, and both runners moved into scoring position on a pass ball. Kalisky laced a single to bring home the first run, setting up for Dalton Perry who went yard to drive three home and put the Strykers up 5-4.ÃâÃÂ
The long ball ended starter Jordan Johnson's night as he gave way to Zac Mishler, making his Pump Jacks pitching debut. Mishler allowed a solo shot to home run king Kevin Santana, his eighth of the year, and then a double to plate another run, ending the inning at a 7-4 deficit. The Strykers added three more in the eighth to pull ahead 10-4.
ÃâÃÂ
The Jacks vowed not to give up, adding three runs in the ninth. With two outs, the Jacks were able to extend the inning thanks to an error by Taylor Taska. After the miscue put runners on the corners, Armstrong worked a walk to load the bases. Meyer picked up the first RBI, advancing to first after being hit by a pitch. McMullen was also hit by a pitch to plate another run, and the final came home on a walk to Mathias. However the Jacks were unable to keep the rally going as Zach Jones struck out to end the game with the bases loaded.ÃâÃÂ
The road trip continues with the Jacks visiting the Brazos Valley Bombers for a pair of two-game series sandwiched around a day off on Monday.
