Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

.Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes won their season-high sixth straight game on Monday night, beating the Lancaster JetHawks, 8-1 at LoanMart Field.

Dodger rehabber Yasiel Puig started and played right field for the Quakes on Monday, as he looks to work his way back from an injured hamstring. Puig finished 1-for-2 with a solo home run and a walk and said after the game that his hamstring felt good, and he anticipates playing in Rancho on Tuesday.

The Quakes scored their first run of the game in the first inning off of JetHawks starter Dean Deetz. With one out, Tim Locastro hit a fly ball down the right-field line, and JetHawks right fielder Bobby Boyd had the ball go in and out of his glove for an error, allowing Locastro to cruise into second base. After advancing to third on a Puig ground out, Matt Beaty knocked in Locastro with an RBI single to make it 1-0.

The game stayed that way until the top of third. Quakes' starter Josh Sboz walked two and allowed a hit to the first three batters of the inning, loading the bases for Boyd, who then walked on four pitches to walk in a run, tying the game at 1-1.

In the bottom of the third, the Quakes took the lead for good. With one out, Erick Mejia tripled off the center-field wall, and then scored after Locastro hit a sacrifice fly to make it 2-1 Rancho. The next hitter was Puig, who parked one over the right field fence for a solo home run, putting the Quakes ahead 3-1.

In the fourth, Rancho Cucamonga added two more. Yusniel Diaz walked with one out, and then Julian Leon clobbered his third home run of the season - his second in three games - to right field, making it 5-1.

The Quakes scored their final three runs in the sixth inning. After Lancaster reliever Rogelio Armenteros walked Locastro and Devan Ahart with two out, and then Edwin Rios hit a routine ground ball to JetHawks shortstop Antonio Nunez. After fielding it cleanly, Nunez's throw sailed over the head of first baseman Trent Woodward and landed in the camera well, allowing everybody to move up an extra base and scoring Ahart to put the Quakes ahead 6-1. After Johan Mieses walked to reload the bases, Diaz hit an RBI single to center field, scoring two and making it 8-1.

The Quakes had seven hits, with seven different players notching a base knock. Four of Rancho's eight runs were scored with two outs.

Sborz (6-3), picked up the win for the Quakes. He pitched five innings and allowed just two hits and one earned run. He walked four and struck out eight.

David Reid-Foley made his season debut and pitched one scoreless inning, while Bubby Rossman pitched two scoreless frames and struck out four of the six hitters he faced. Kevin Brown pitched a scoreless ninth inning with two strikeouts; he now has five strikeouts in two innings pitched this season.

Deetz (3-2) was charged with the loss for the JetHawks. He pitched 3.2 innings, and allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits. Armenteros allowed three unearned runs in his two innings of work, walking six. Kevin Comer pitched 2.1 scoreless innings for Lancaster, striking out four.

The Quakes will look for a seventh straight win on Tuesday night as they continue their series in game two against the Lancaster JetHawks. Rancho will again get some help from the Los Angeles Dodgers, with Yasiel Puig slated to make a rehab appearance at LoanMart Field for the second straight night as he rehabs an injured hamstring. Andrew Sopko (7-0, 3.04 ERA) gets the start for the Quakes, while the JetHawks will counter with Josh James (4-2, 2.82 ERA).

Tuesday is Healthy RC Recycle Tuesday!
