Port Huron Prowlers News Release

The Mentor Ice Breakers win for the first time this season defeating the Port Huron Prowlers 6-4, avoiding a weekend sweep, and avoiding staying winless.

Mentor netted the first three goals of the game in the first period. Two of them coming from the stick of Mark Essery. The other coming from Drake Hunter. Port Huron finally got on the board in the first frame, with two minutes left to go on Zach Zulkanycz's goal. Mentor would take a 3-1 lead into the intermission after the first frame.

Port Huron would fight back after Gordy Bonnel's goal put Mentor up 4-1 early in the 2nd period. Goals from Yianni Liarakos and Dalton Jay cut the lead to just 1 goal, at the end of the 2nd.

The first two minutes of the final period are two minutes the Prowlers wish they could get back. Declan Conway would extend the lead 5-3, 1:16 into the first period. 34 seconds later Mark Essery would net his hat trick goal to make it a 6-3 lead in the third. Liarakos netted his second goal of the game three and a half minutes into the third but it was too little too late as Derek Moser's 50 save night on 54 Prowler shots was more than enough to secure the victory for the Ice Breakers.

The Prowlers will play at home against Danville coming up on Wednesday at 7pm, before they go on the road to Elmira next weekend. Mentor will play 1st place Carolina for a home at home series starting Wednesday in Mentor and will go to Carolina on Thursday. Puck drops for both games at 7:35
