Protected Bears Announced

Knoxville Ice Bears News Release

Knoxville, TENN - Head Coach Jeff Carr announced Friday his list of thirteen protected Ice Bear players for the upcoming 2019-2020 SPHL season.

When asked about his selections for the protected list, Coach Carr said, "We were just two overtime periods away from the finals. We have a cohesive group of guys and I wanted to select a strong nucleus of players at each position; it leaves a lot fewer roster holes to fill during the recruiting process."

2019-2020 KNOXVILLE ICE BEARS PROTECTED ROSTER:

Forwards:

Lucas Bombardier (56 games: 18G, 21A, 57PIM)

Stefan Brucato (54 games: 9G, 22A, 38PIM)

Scott Cuthrell (47 games: 12G, 32A, 14PIM)

Stanislav Dvakhov (33 games: 11G, 20A, 46PIM)

Anthony McVeigh (40 games: 7G, 19A, 10PIM)

Mitchell Mueller (15 games: 2G, 1A, 26PIM)

Bryce Neilsen (41 games: 13G, 9A, 18PIM)

Defensemen:

David Brancik (43 games: 6G, 8A, 32PIM)

Charlie Granath (48 games: 4G, 8A 27PIM)

Ricky Kramer (11 games: 0G, 5A, 0PIM)

Spencer Metcalfe (13 games: 0G, 5A, 29PIM)

Doug Rose (56 games: 9G, 25A, 18PIM)

Goalie:

Hayden Stewart (19 games: 11-6-2, 52GA, .913SV%)

Carr also noted he was confident any unprotected Ice Bears were likely to be "either back with us or in the Coast [ECHL] next season. I think they all want to be a part of what we're doing here."

Because SPHL players are all on one-year contracts, each team may select a group of "untouchables" at the end of the year so other teams in the league cannot recruit them individually. Any unprotected players are immediately considered unrestricted free agents, available for other teams within the league to approach. After August 1st, unprotected players may then be signed by their current team.

With a myriad of improvements and renovations coming to the Knoxville Civic Coliseum, the Ice Bears players, coaches, and staff alike are eager to continue building on the successes of this season and reconvene in October, ready for another exciting season of Knoxville hockey.
