Professional Monarchs Have Steps to Climb

July 19, 2010 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Real Maryland Monarchs News Release

Silver Spring, MD - The Monarchs return this weekend to Richard Montgomery High School on Sunday, July 25th at 6:30 to take on the first place Charleston Battery. Real Maryland has played the first place foes well in each of the previous three meetings, tying one and losing the other two matches by only a goal. The two teams match up well, so it should be an exciting game.

The Monarchs are coming off the dreaded Southern trip where they played back-to-back matches against Charleston and then Charlotte. Real Maryland was unlucky on Friday night where the former Division One side downed them 1-0.

The following night, the boys lifted their spirits and fought with heart to a 1-1 draw with Charlotte. The lone goal for the Monarchs was scored by Joel Senior who has played extremely well since joining the team.

The end of the regular season is only four weeks away with the playoffs looming in the distance. Due to a late season skid, the Monarchs have found themselves five points out of the playoff race. But, Real Maryland does not count themselves out. They believe the team can make it back to the Playoffs for a second year in a row.

Real Maryland FC has four games left, two home and two away. Their last four games are against the top four teams in the USL Second Division, Charleston, Pittsburgh, Charlotte and Richmond. "I wouldn't have it any other way, says Head Coach Anthony Hudson. The boys believe they can overcome and achieve."

It would be a bit of magic if the young sorcerer could conjure some significant points as the United Soccer League's Second Division Regular Season begins to wind down and the Playoffs ramp up.

The Monarchs will welcome back this weekend Captain Gareth Evans after he sat out both games this past weekend with card accumulation. The team will certainly see a surge from his energy and strong play in the middle of the pitch.

Real Maryland FC (3-7-6 15 Pts.) has scored 13 goals and conceded 17 goals in 15 matches. The Monarchs are 1-4-3 at home with 3 goals for and 7 against while they are 2-3-3 with 10 goals for and 10 against on the road.

If the Maryland side wants to change their fortunes and make a run for the money, they will have to definitely step outside of themselves and perform legendary.
