OKC Energy FC News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY - With their 2-0 win over the Austin Aztex on August 29 and the win by the OC Blues over Portland Timbers 2, Energy FC clinched their first-ever USL playoff berth.
A sellout crowd of 6,089 saw a fantastic display of goalkeeping by Evan Newton in the first half, capped off by a history-tying goal by Konig in the second half. After Sebastian Dalgaard staked Energy FC to a 1-0 lead late in the first half, Newton made several acrobatic saves to keep the score 1-0. Late in the second half, Chuy Sanchez set up Konig for the history-tying goal. K?nig's goal, his 20th of the season, ties the USL single-season record for goals scored set by Orlando City SC's Kevin Molino just last season.
Energy FC is second USL squad to clinch a spot in the postseason and the first to do so in the Western Conference. Dates and times for playoff matches are to be determined at a later date. Currently, Energy FC occupies the top spot in the Western Conference, one point ahead of LA Galaxy II.
Energy FC looks for its sixth straight win when they return to the pitch Wednesday on the road against Real Monarchs SLC in Salt Lake City, Utah. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. (ct).
