
Pro softball team ready to take field

MIDLAND...Michigan Ice softball, the state's women's professional fastpitch team, will take the field Wednesday in Houston against the Texas Thunder of the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) League. The game is the first of a four-game set against the Thunder.
The Thunder went 3-1 this past weekend on the road against the Arizona Heat while the Ice will open their inaugural independent season in Texas.
Expected to take the mound Wednesday night for the Ice is former Grand Valley State all-American Jenny Mackson. She will face a Thunder team that is batting .325 (39-120). Top hitters from the Thunder include Serena Settlemier (.500, 7-14), Kristen Zaleski (.400, 6-15, 2-triples) & Kim Nesloney (.400, 6-15).
The pitching staff of the Thunder is solid all the way through. Leading the staff are aces Christa Williams & Amanda Freed. They are backed up by newcomers Serena Settlemier & Krystal Lewallen.
The Ice will return home to Currie Stadium (Emerson Park) in Midland on June 16th to host Team Venezuela. Game time is 8:05pm and reserved tickets are $5 and lawn admission, $3. Don't miss out on any of the hottest fastpitch action this summer.
