ALEXANDRIA BAY, New York - The 1000 Islands Privateers picked up their first victory over the Brooklyn Aviators this season with a 4-1 win on Friday night at the Bonnie Castle Rec Center in Federal Hockey League action.

Brad Smulders, Adam McCallister, Chad Bazin, and Paul Kelly each had two points on the night for the Privateers, and goalie Matt Anthony recorded 32 saves in the victory.

After some back and forth action to kick off the first period, Brooklyn would go on two power play chances, however could not convert on the man advantages. Building off their two penalty kills, 1000 Islands struck first late in the frame to take a 1-0 lead. Kelly raced over the A's blueline along the left wing, froze Brooklyn goalie Pete Dundovich long enough to move him out of position and found a streaking Smulders back door for his 15th goal of the season at the 16:22 mark.

1000 Islands doubled their lead 6:57 into the middle period, 2-0, after Ryan Pearson snapped home the puck from the left wing circle. Brooklyn quickly answered 16-seconds later, as Andrew Scampoli recorded his second goal of the season on a redirection in front of Anthony. Defenseman Henry Coxe let a shot go from the right point and Scampoli deflected the puck through the five-hole of Anthony to cut deficit to 2-1.

The Privateers regained their two-goal edge, 3-1, halfway through the third and final period. Kelly got behind the Aviators defense and tapped in the pass from Bazin, who threw the puck towards the net from the right wing circle. McCallister sealed it with an empty netter for 1000 Islands with 13-seconds left.

Dundovich is charged with the loss despite turning aside 30 shots.

The Aviators and Privateers close out the weekend, and two-game set, with another 7:05 p.m. tilt at the Bonnie Castle Rec Center on Saturday night.
