Privateers Re-Sign Laporte Brothers

As the calendar turns to February, the homestretch of the Federal Hockey League appears and thoughts turn to the playoffs. Despite losing players to call-ups, the 1000 Islands Privateers are reloading the crew and enhancing their skill players with added protection. The team traded yesterday to reacquire center Will Laporte and his twin brother, defenseman Nick, from the Rome Frenzy. The North Bay, Ontario natives started the season with the Privateers before winding up with the Frenzy. Will scored 18 points in Rome and accrued 117 penaltiy minutes with 11 majors, ranking him 3rd in the league with those stats. Nick saw no action with the Frenzy but did earn 4 points and 22 penalty minutes while with the Privateers. He notably fought Danbury tough guy and FHL leader in penalty minutes Corey Fulton, taking deep lacerations to his knuckles from repeatedly punching Fulton in the teeth.

The Laportes will join their Privateers teammates this weekend for a crucial set with the first-place Akwesasne Warriors. The home-and-home begins Friday night at 7 PM at the Bonnie Castle Rec Center. It's Privateers Thunderstick Night, where the first 800 fans in attendance will receive a pair of Thundersticks, courtesy of FX Caprara. The team will again host Akwesasne on Thursday, February 10th at 7 PM. It's First Responders Appreciation Night as fans can come out to thank the men and women who serve and protect the Northcountry. The evening's 50/50 raffle will benefit the Youngs family of Depauville. Fans can get more information and purchase tickets by calling 315-382-5656.

The 1000 Islands Privateers operate in Alexandria Bay and are a founding franchise in the Federal Hockey League.
