
Privateers Prevail in Maine, 3 to 1

Lewiston, ME - After a long week of rebuilding up in Alexandria Bay, NY, the Thousand Islands Privateers hopped a bus to Lewiston, Maine at 6am, arrived at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee, and beat the 1st Place New Jersey Outlaws by a score of 3 to 1 in the 5th and final game of this season's Maine Event.
1000 Islands staved off a furious pace set by New Jersey at the onset of the contest, gaining control of the play midway through the period and took a 1 to 0 lead when Britt Ouelette broke the scoreless tie at the 12:08 mark on a nice setup from newly acquired forward Tibor Varga, beating Outlaws goaltender Dan McWhinney through the five hole. the Privateers added another goal just over 3 minutes later when Paul Kelly scored on a 2 man advantage with Billy McCreary and Nathan Oke in the box at the 15:21 mark and that's how the period ended.
There was no scoring during the second period, but action picked up in the 3rd period as the Privateers increased their lead to 3 to 1 when Adam McAllister beat McWhinney with a blast from the slot top shelf, glove side at 15:16 of the 3rd. New Jersey would spoil the shutout attempt by the Privateers newest goalie, Peter Dundovich with a goal by Travis Kauffeldt at 19:09 from Cooper and McCreary and that was how it ended.
Dan McWhinney took the loss, stopping 23 of 26 shots, whilePeter Dundovich won his debut as a Privateer, stopping 47 of 48 shots. Dundovich was named the games 1st star. The Outlaws head to Cape Cod to take on the Bluefins tomorrow night at 7p,m at Hyannis Youth and Community Center, while the Privateers have a day off after the long trip home, then Travel to Danbury Ice Arena on Saturday to take on the Whalers at 7:35pm.
