Privateers Fall to Warriors
December 1, 2011 - Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL)
Watertown Privateers News Release
Despite a series of hard won goals, and the return of defenseman Shawn Fensel, the 1000 Islands Privateers lost a valiant home game against river rival Akwasasne in a shootout. In front of a home crowd of 785, the action remained high, and the score tied at 4 through regulation and 1st overtime, with The Warriors winning in a thrilling shootout session.
Adam McAllister got the Privateers on the board first at 4:41 in the 1st period (Michael Richard, Ryan Pearson). Akwasasne evened the deal at 10:15 as Dan Tessier netted (Ahmed Mahfouz, Pierre Dagenais). McAllister notched #2 for the night at 15:22 on a powerplay strike (Richard, Paul Kelly) to pull ahead going into intermission.
The 2nd period opened with fierce play between both clubs, and at 11:59 the Warriors Jeremy VanHoof evened things up with a goal (Dagenais, Tessier). Four minutes later Dagenais got his own score at 15:56 (Tessier, Sylvain Deschatelets) to put Akwasasne in the lead. Privateer Brad Smulders brought the score back to even at 3 with a netter at 17:05 (Brian Marks, Tyler Fernandez).
Things looked bleak for the Privateers as Dagenais scored again at 8:28 in the 3rd (Patrick Bilodeau) until 1000 Islands captain Jeff Winchester tied it up once again with seconds to spare at 19:48 on a powerplay stinger (McAllister,Paul Kelly).
The overtime period had no scoring, but plenty of exciting hockey as both teams struggled to find a weakness. At the close of the shootout, Akwasasne held on to a 3-2 goal total to win the night.
The loss left 1000 Islands to contemplate a 10-3 record, seating them in second place in the FHL behind New Jersey. The Privateers hit the road for a trip to Cape Cod on Friday, and Brooklyn on Saturday.
