Watertown Privateers News Release

The 1000 Islands Privateers lost 5-2 to the Akwesasne Warriors today before 682 at the Anowarako'wa Arena. The Warriors shut down the Privateers offense, particularly the power play, to force a weekend split and retain sole possession of first place in the Federal Hockey League.

Following his team's 5-3 loss Saturday night at the Bonnie Castle Rec Center, Angelo Sanseverino guaranteed his team would win Sunday afternoon. The Warriors converted chances in the first period as Kyle Lagace and Joshua Desmarais tallied. After fighting Adam McAllister in the first, Warriors captain Patrick Derapse scored a short-handed goal in the second. Miguel Delisle made it 4-0 Warriors after two periods. Carter Trevisani lit the lamp in the third period for the Warriors. The Privateers finally solved Warriors goalie David Plouffe as Tom Renae scored his first goal with the team with assists going to Clay McFadden and Tyler Fernandez. Fernandez extended his scoring streak to 17 games and closed the scoring off feeds from McFadden and Alex Lacombe. Plouffe stopped 38 of 40 shots and the defense played strong in front of him, stopping the league's top power play on all seven occasions. Rich Sillery made 30 of 35 saves but suffered his third loss to the Warriors this season. The win puts Akwesasne back in front of the Privateers by two points.

The Privateers will head on the road this upcoming weekend, visiting Danbury on Friday and New York on Saturday.
