
Pride Signs Ex-Phillie Otero; Trades Reyes

February 20, 2003 - The Nashua Pride announced today that the team has acquired pitcher BUBBA HARDWICK from the Atlantic City Surf in exchange for catcher JOSE REYES.
Hardwick, a 31-year old southpaw, is a nine-year minor league veteran, including three seasons in the Atlantic League. The Brewers selected Hardwick in the 23rd round of the 1992 draft and he progressed as far as double-A ball before being granted free agency in 1998. He split the 1999 season, his first in the Atlantic League, between Lehigh Valley and Atlantic City. His best season came with the Surf in 2000 when he recorded a 12-10 record with a 3.94 ERA in 26 starts. Last year, he compiled an 0-2 record in 7 appearances with Atlantic City.
JOSE REYES, 29, has played the last three seasons in Nashua and handled the majority of the Pride catching duties during the 2002 season. In 90 games last season, Reyes hit .223 with 6 homers and 29 RBIs. His best year with Nashua came in 2000 when he hit .305 and hit the championship-deciding home run in the title series against the Somerset Patriots.

PRIDE SIGN EX-PHILLIES OUTFIELDER RICKY OTERO
February 20, 2003 - The Pride also announced that former Philadelphia Phillies outfielder RICKY OTERO has agreed to terms for the 2003 season.
Otero, a 30-year old switch-hitter, played in 189 Major League games with the New York Mets (1995) and Philadelphia Phillies (1996-1997). His best season at the Major League level came in 1996 when the speedy centerfielder hit .273 in 104 games with 2 homers, 32 RBIs and 16 stolen bases. He has played the last three seasons with Cancun of the Mexican League. He is a .292 career hitter in 1,151 minor league games with 466 steals and a .256 hitter in his 189 Major League appearances.

ATLANTIC LEAGUE MANAGERIAL MOVES
The NEWARK BEARS welcomed a new member to the Atlantic League managerial ranks while the BRIDGEPORT BLUEFISH bid farewell to another member of the fraternity.
The Bears have announced that former National League batting champion BILL MADLOCK will serve as Field Manager for the 2003 season, taking over from the departed MARV FOLEY.
Meanwhile, the Bluefish have announced the DUFFY DYER, the club's manager for the past two seasons, has left the team to accept a scouting position with the New York Mets organization. A successor is yet to be announced.
