Pride Return for Nine-Game Homestand
Published on July 22, 2002 under Canadian American League (Can-Am)
American Defenders of New Hampshire News Release
As of Monday, July 22nd, the Pride are carrying a league-record 15-game losing streak, breaking the Atlantic League record set by the Newark Bears, who lost 13 straight in the circuit inaugural season of 1998.
The Pride streak continues despite a "whammy" placed on the game ball by local wrestler and season ticket holder "Ripper" during the July 17th game against Newark. Thanks for trying Rip!
We're positive the boys will end the drought during the current road trip in Camden, but there's nothing like a full house to buoy a team's spirits at home.
Call 883-BALL (2255) for tickets to games for the upcoming homestand or visit www.nashuapride.com/gettickets.asp to order online.

AROUND THE LEAGUE
Atlantic League ATTENDANCE officially hit the one-million mark for the season on Wednesday, July 17th. Average attendance league-wide is 3,773 per game, which forecasts to 1.86 million fans for 2002, slightly ahead of 2001's all-time record Atlantic League attendance of 1,855,450.
The LONG ISLAND DUCKS signed long-time Major League vet Hard Hittin' Mark Whiten on July 16th. Whiten is a .259 career hitter with 102 homers and 423 RBIs in 940 career games. Whiten is perhaps best remembered for his remarkable September 7th, 1993 performance while with the St. Louis Cardinals. The switch-hitting slugger belted four homers including and grand slam (one of fourteen Major Leaguers to hit four homers in a game) and drove in a record-tying 12 runs (one of only two Major Leaguers with a 12 RBI game).Whiten played for the Boston Red Sox in 1999.
More DUCKS news: The Ducks traded outfielder P.J. WILLIAMS to the Newark Bears for infielder EDGAR TOVAR in a swap of 2002 Atlantic League All-Stars last week. Williams visited Nashua with the Bears last week during Newark's sweep of the Pride.
The Bears have also signed free agent third baseman RYAN MINOR. Minor has an interesting place in baseball history. The former Baltimore Oriole (1998-2000) and Montreal Expo (2001) was the player who replaced CAL RIPKEN when the future Hall-of-Famer voluntarily ended his record consecutive games streak in 1998. Minor also visited Nashua last week with Newark shortly after his signing and started in all three games.
The CAMDEN RIVERSHARKS hosted ALLEN IVERSON's annual Summer Classic Celebrity Softball Game on Saturday Night at Campbell's Field. The game drew a crowd of over 5,400 fans and helped raise thousands of dollars for local charities. NBA stars Kevin Garnett, Eric Snow, Aaron McKie, Sam Cassels and Steve Francis joined celebs Kadeem Harrison, Bow Wow and Jackie Frazier for the festivities.
