American Defenders of New Hampshire News Release

NASHUA, NH, May 31, 2007) Nashua Pride pitching allowed just two hits and one walk on Thursday night in a 1-0 win over the Sussex Skyhawks (1-6) at Historic Holman Stadium as the Pride (4-3) completed a three-game sweet in front of 734 fans.

Nashua starter Akira Okamoto pitched the first seven innings, surrendering just two hits and one walk while striking out 14. In two starts with the Pride this season, Okamoto has worked twelve innings and has yet to allow a run. Okamoto, however, has yet to get a decision. Pride reliever Jim Mann (1-0) earned the victory, working the eighth inning for Nashua, getting out a big jam as Sussex had runners at second and third with no one out and failed to score. Rich Garces worked a hitless ninth inning for the Pride as "El Guapo" recorded his third save in as many nights.

The only run of the ballgame came in the bottom of the eighth inning. Nashua native Austin Wasserman opened the inning with a single to center. Wasserman was forced at second base on a fielder's choice off the bat of Jeff Funaro. Tom Creighton followed with an infield hit and Olmo Rosario stroked his third single of the night to load the bases with one out. Nashua Designated Hitter Jose Velazquez stroked a hard ground ball which was bobbled by Sussex first baseman Jabe Bergeron as Funaro came across with the Nashua tally.

Sussex starter Edisbel Benitez (1-1) was the tough luck loser for the Skyhawks. He worked seven and two-thirds innings, allowing six hits, walking five and fanning three.

The Pride open an eight-game road trip Friday night in Little Falls, New Jersey against the New Jersey Jackals. The Pride return home on June 9 against the Brockton Rox at 7:05. All Pride games this season can be heard on the Internet on www.nashuapride.com or www.canamleague.com.
