Pride Outlast Jackals; 7-6

(Nashua, N.H., August 14, 2008) The Nashua Pride survived a ninth inning rally to edge the New Jersey Jackals, 7-6, at Historic Holman Stadium on Thursday Night.

Pride starting pitcher Hideki Nagasaka (7-5) earned the win going five-plus innings, giving up three runs (two earned), on nine hits, two walks and three strike outs. Relievers Brett Palanski and Mike Joyce combined to pitch three shut-out innings after Nagasaka left the game. Closer Adam Piechowski gave up three runs in the ninth inning, but was able to contain New Jersey and secure the victory with a pair of strike outs.

Pride center fielder Ervin Alcantara paced the offense going 3-for-4 with two doubles and a RBI. Third baseman Mike Torres (2-for-4), second baseman Ismael Castro (2-for-3), and first baseman Bryan Duplissie (1-for-4) all doubled and notched RBI for Nashua, while shortstop Sandy Almonte had a RBI fielder's choice.

Jackals' starter Aaron Tressler (3-8) sustained the loss lasting four innings, giving up six runs (five earned), on six hits, two walks and three strike outs. Reliever Mike Vicaro pitched four innings behind Tressler giving up one run, on three hits and four strike outs.

New Jersey catcher Matt Lauderdale led the Jackals going 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI. Designated hitter Luke Allen went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and a RBI, while teammates Bryant Nelson and Juan Tejeda each drove in a run for the Jackals.

The Pride will now open up a three game series with the Sussex Skyhawks on Friday, at 7:05pm, when Nashua sends Lance Stevens (6-5) to the hill. The Skyhawks are scheduled to start Matt Salvato (8-3).
