New Jersey Pride News Release
CLIFTON - Building on a late draft-day trade, the New Jersey Pride made another swap, acquiring attackman Chris Unterstein from Denver for New Jersey's second round pick in the 2008 MLL Collegiate Draft.
The Pride received an additional second round pick in a trade last Thursday from the San Francisco Dragons in a trade that sent Liam Banks and Ryan Hotaling to San Francisco for Joe Yevoli, making the team's own second round pick expendable.
"Being able to turn around and get a player the caliber of Chris is a great asset to our team,'' said Pride General Manager Trey Reeder. "He is going to come in and help us immediately.''
Unterstein was originally selected by the Rochester Rattlers with the 8th overall pick in the 2006 MLL Collegiate draft out of Hofstra. In 2006 for Rochester, he scored seven goals and assisted on 10 others, giving him a respectable 17 points in his rookie year.
He was acquired by Denver in a trade on May 2 which sent Jeff Zywicki and a second round 2007 Collegiate Draft pick to Rochester.
"Chris is a guy who can get to the goal and score, but he can also create some things and move the ball,'' Reeder said. "He's going to bring a lot to our offense.''
Unterstein will make his Pride debut this weekend when the team travels to Rochester for a game at Paetec Park on Friday night. He is one of three new Pride players and joins Chris Colliniates in making their team debuts.
Thus far through two games in 2007, Unterstein has assisted on three goals, and picked up three ground balls while taking four shots.
The Pride return home to face off against the Chicago Machine on June 16. For tickets, call the Pride offices at (973) 614-1792.
