OKC Energy FC News Release
OKC Energy FC (5-2-3) enters Tuesday's match undefeated over its last six matches (5-0-1) and having won five straight. Energy FC topped Portland Timbers 2 by a score of 2-0 last Friday on the strength of two Kyle Greig goals and a third consecutive shutout by keeper Evan Newton. An early red card to Portland's Matt Rose gave OKC a man advantage for more than 62 minutes, while Energy FC lost captain Michael Thomas to injury in the 32nd minute. Greig's two goals give him an overall team-high of seven (two in U.S. Open Cup play) and tied him with Danni Konig for the team lead in USL play goals with five.
Two of OKC's five consecutive wins have come in U.S. Open Cup play, a 3-1 win in Midland/Odessa on May 20, and 1-0 win over Tulsa on May 27. With the win over Tulsa, Energy FC faces the MLS's FC Dallas in a June 16 match at Texas Christian University's Garvey-Rosenthal soccer complex in Ft. Worth.
Vancouver (3-5-4) enters play off a 3-0 loss to Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC last Saturday that ended the Whitecaps' four-game unbeaten streak. Inclement weather led to a delay of more than an hour at Colorado Springs' Sand Creek Stadium, with all three Switchbacks goals coming after play resumed.
Tuesday's match is the second and final meeting of the season between the two clubs, who played to a 2-2 draw on May 17. Since that match, OKC is 3-0 in USL play, and Vancouver is 2-1-1.
