Atletico Ottawa News Release
Atlético Ottawa begins a two-week journey away from the nation's capital with an inaugural clash at Vancouver FC, the latest expansion side to join the Canadian Premier League (KO 9.30 pm ET, Live on OneSoccer).
Here's everything you need to know before Saturday's match in British Columbia.
Atlético Ottawa will be looking to call upon their fine away form that served the club so well in 2022 against Vancouver FC this weekend.
Currently, Ottawa sits in eighth place in the CPL table after four games having tied two and lost two despite positive performances.
Eight (8) new players have already featured for Head Coach Carlos González as the side continues to seek the right balance on the field.
This will be Atlético's third game in the space of seven days following their midweek to trip Hamilton, ON, in the Canadian Championship as a narrow defeat saw Atleti eliminated in the quarter-finals.
Ollie Bassett's equalizer from the penalty spot three minutes from time cancelled out Kyle Bekker's opener in the 76th minute.
Bassett, however, couldn't replicate his late heroics as the British midfielder was one of four players to be denied in the penalty shoot-out.
It was a much-improved display from the visitors with Niba Macdonald (starting his first game this season) in particular excelling at left-back.
This is the first time the teams will have met each other in all competitions.
Vancouver FC, coached by Afshin Ghotbi, have started their inaugural season in impressive fashion and has picked up five (5) points from their opening four games.
After losing the first game of the season away to Pacific FC, Vancouver shocked York United before being held away to Halifax Wanderers.
Ghotbi's side hosted their first home game against Cavalry FC
Record head-to-head (all time): 0W-0D-0L; 0 goals scored, 0 goals conceded
QUOTE
Carlos González, Atlético Ottawa Head Coach
"We face the game with a lot of ambition and motivation, trying to continue with our good performance and to grab three points that would be very valuable to us a the moment. Although we haven't played against them, we haven't felt how they perform but we have plenty of information to start to work and plan the game we need to grab the three points."
