Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, Mich. - The Muskegon Lumberjacks will remain on the road for games seven and eight on their current nine-game road swing by motoring to Plymouth on the east side of Michigan for a two-game weekend set with Team USA U17 on Friday and Saturday, April 15 and 16, respectively. Both games will start at 7:05 pm EDT from USA Hockey Arena. Head-to-head, the Lumberjacks are perfect against the 17's, going 4-0-0-0 this season. The last time each team hit the ice together, Muskegon steamrolled the 17's on home ice by a 7-to-2 score back on Jan. 14.
Land of the Free, Home of the Brave
Team USA U17 has endured a turbulent year, with an overall record of 18-25-4-0 and going 2-8-1-0 in their last 11 games. Against USHL opponents, the 17's are 6-21-3-0, which includes going winless against the Lumberjacks in four meetings this season. Other notables for Team USA are placing second in the 2021 Four Nations Tournament held in Piestany, Slovakia, sweeping the NAHL top prospects tournament, and capturing the Four Nations tournament earlier in the season in Vaasa, Finland. Most recently, Team USA split with the Madison Capitols by dropping the first contest in an 8-to-3 drubbing but earned redemption the following night with a 5-to-3 win last Saturday. Leading the way for Team USA U17 is Gabe Perreault, who leads the team in points with a stat line of 15 goals and 31 assists for 46 points. Not too far behind Perrault is Oliver Moore, who has 23 goals and 15 assists for 38 points. Rounding out the top forward group is Will Smith, who has amassed 17 goals and 20 assists for 37 points. In goal, the 17's have a three-way goalie rotation with the likes of Trey Augustine, Carsen Musser, and Michael Chambre.
About Last Weekend
After coming out of a three-in-three with Youngstown, the Lumberjacks hit the road again for another three-in-three, but in a pro-style road trip in three different cities. The Jacks started their journey in Dubuque, Iowa on Friday, but ultimately fell to the Fighting Saints by a score of 4-to-3. The following night, Muskegon had another close, one-goal game in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, but fell just short to the RoughRiders in a 6-to-5 defeat. Finally, the Jacks capped off the road trip on a high note with a 3-to-2 win in Green Bay, Wisc. against the Gamblers. After taking one game in the three-in-three, Muskegon stays put in third place in the Eastern Conference standings with an overall record of 30-22-3-3 and 66 points, 13 points behind Dubuque (79 points, second place), 15 points behind Chicago (79 points, first place), but only three in front of Youngstown (63 points, fourth place) and eight ahead of Madison (58 points, fifth place).
Playoff Bound
The Muskegon Lumberjacks are headed to the postseason for the eighth time in franchise history after clinching a spot in the 2022 Clark Cup Playoffs. Chief Keefe
The Muskegon Lumberjacks have signed defenseman Owen Keefe to a tender agreement for the 2022-23 season. Keefe, the 5-foot-10, 170-pound defenseman has appeared in 21 games with Malden Catholic High School, totaling six goals and 22 assists for 28 points. In 2020-21, the Saugus, Mass. native amassed seven goals and 54 assists for 61 points in 60 games with Boston Jr. Eagles. Hockey runs deep within the Keefe family, as Owen's father, Jerry, is currently the head coach at Northeastern Univerisity. Keefe becomes the second
tender signed by the Lumberjacks this season, joining Sacha Boisvert who signed his agreement in mid-January.
Road Warriors
The Muskegon Lumberjacks are nearing the end of a nine-game road trip, the longest of the season. Before this current road swing, the longest road trip for the Lumberjacks this season was four games, which Muskegon has already accomplished twice already this year. This long road stand is now the second-longest road trip in franchise history, with the current record still standing at 10-consecutive road games, which was set to begin the 2020-21 season where the Lumberjacks were on the road from Nov. 6 through Dec. 16.
Record Tracker
Lumberjacks forward Quinn Hutson (111 career points) is now fourth all-time in points in Muskegon Lumberjacks history, with fellow teammate and captain Jack Williams (110 career points) right behind him for fifth all-time in points. Both players recently passed Mikael Hakkarainen (107 career points), but sit just behind Collin Adams (112 career points), Matej Paulovic (119 career points), and Daniil Gushchin (147 career points) on the all-time leader list for most points in franchise history.
Eyes on the Century Men
Seven current Lumberjacks have played at least 100 career USHL games, those being captain Jack Williams (162 games), Noah Ellis (152 games), Tyler Dunbar (137 games), Jacob Guevin (115 games), Jake Braccini (111 games), and Phil Tresca (102 games), and Quinn Hutson (101 games). On the radar for 100 career games is Owen Mehlenbacher (99 games), who is due to hit the century mark in the next game he dresses. In addition to games played, Quinn Hutson (111 points), and Jack Williams (110 points) became the seventh and eighth players in franchise history, respectively, to score at least 100 career points. Jacob Guevin (97 career points) would need only three more points to become the third Lumberjack this season to hit triple digits, and the ninth player in franchise history to do so.
