Calgary Stampeders News Release
Calgary Stampeders quarterback Henry Burris will be honoured as the 2008 Presidents' Ring Award recipient at this year's President's Luncheon presented by Global Calgary. The luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the TELUS Convention Centre on Thursday, May 14, 2009.
Tickets for the event are still available and can be purchased by calling the Stampeders' Ticket Office at 403.289.0258 or by visiting Stampeders.com. Each table purchased for the event will feature a Stamps player, alumni or coach. Individual tickets can also be purchased.
"This is one of our marquee events each year and we expect this year's event to be bigger and better than ever," said Stamps president Scott Ackles. "Henry has been a huge value to our organization and we're looking forward to honouring him with this prestigious award for the second consecutive year."
The Presidents' Ring has been presented annually since 1967 to the Stampeders player who best demonstrates excellence on and off the field. Burris' teammates selected him based on his in-game contributions, leadership, inspiration, motivational skills and his lasting commitment to the Calgary community.
This is the second year in a row Burris has won the Presidents' Ring. He is the 27th player to win the award and just the fourth to win back-to-back (Danny Barrett, Alondra Johnson and Jay McNeil were the others).
Burris led the Stamps to a Grey Cup victory this past season and was the most valuable player of the championship game. He was the West Division nominee as the Canadian Football League's Most Outstanding Player after he helped guide Calgary to a 13-5 regular-season record. He established career highs in passing yards (5,094), touchdown passes (39), completion percentage (64.5) and quarterback rating (103.8).
