Dayton Air Strikers News Release
CHICAGO, IL - The Premier Basketball League is pleased to announce that the Dayton Air Strikers have been accepted into the league for the upcoming 2011 season. The Air Strikers will be an expansion team for the upcoming season.
"We looked at several leagues and it was an easy decision to apply for membership into the PBL," said Anthony Byrd, president of the Dayton Air Strikers Sports Group LLC. "We feel that we will be competitive in our inaugural year due to the great talent in the Southwest Ohio area. We are excited that we are able to bring professional basketball to the Dayton, Ohio region and create quality sports entertainment for the community."
The team has a contracted deal with WWRD-TV, a local AT Sports TV Network affiliate, and will have select home games broadcasted throughout the season. The local franchise will also be covered nationally through a league deal with Satellite and Cable providers.
The Dayton Air Strikers will play 10 home games at the James Trent Arena in Kettering, Ohio.
"We felt Trent Arena was the best place to have this venue,"Â Byrd said. "It's right in the middle of the Miami Valley, giving everyone an opportunity to come to a game without traveling too far of a distance."
The Dayton Air Strikers will be led by former NBA coach Ron Ekker, who was an assistant coach for the Orlando Magic and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Ekker was also the head coach at St. Louis University from 1985-1989.
"We couldn't have landed a better Head coach. With Ron's 30 plus years of experience, he is really going to give our team a competitive edge. He knows how to connect with the players and get the best performance out of them," Byrd said.
The Team will also feature national and local entertainment during half time, showcasing musical youth groups and other local organizations.
"We want the community to really embrace this team" said Byrd. "Giving our fans a quality and exciting sports entertainment experience is the number one way to do so."
The Dayton Air Strikers will hold an official Press Conference Wednesday, October 27th at 1:00p at the James Trent Arena in Kettering.
