Preds Release Fryzel

Orlando Predators News Release

Orlando - The Orlando Predators receiving corps has a much different look this year than last, largely due to the hole left by the loss of fan favorite Jimmy Fryzel.

Fryzel tore his ACL while running a route during the second day of mini-camp in February and has since been released by the team. In accordance with the CBA, a team is not required to retain a player unless he has four years or more AFL experience. If the team does retain the player, it counts toward the team's salary cap.

Preds head coach Jay Gruden says Jimmy is an important part of the offense and he hopes to see Fryzel in a Preds jersey again.

"It's unfortunate, but we intend to take care of Jimmy to get the medical care he needs so he can be 100% and we can hopefully resign him next year," said Gruden. "We are doing everything in our power that the AFL and CBA allow."

Fryzel played his first AFL game with the Predators in Week 5 of the 2005 season. He scored three touchdowns and claimed the Offensive Player of the Game that week against the Chicago Rush.

The former UCF receiver went on to lead the Preds in receptions (87), receiving yards (1,108) and receiving touchdowns (23) the following season.

2007 found Fryzel fighting an injury plagued season, playing in just nine of the 16 regular season games. He finished with 55 receptions for 581 yards and eight touchdowns.

Fryzel will have surgery this month to repair the torn ACL. He's hoping to make a comeback in 2009.
